Victor J. Dzau is President of National Academy of Medicine (NAM), Vice-Chair of National Research Council. He is recognized for distinguished career as a physician scientist, administrator, and leader. His research laid the foundation for development of ACE inhibitors, lifesaving drugs for hypertension and heart failure. He pioneered gene therapy for vascular disease and cardiac regeneration. He has held some of the most influential academic and health leadership roles as Chair, Departments of Medicine at Stanford and Harvard, Chancellor at Duke University and CEO of Duke Health. He introduced the important concept of “Bench to Bedside to Population to Society” for academic medicine. At NAM, he has championed science, innovation, equity, and global collaboration. He has created innovative programs for emerging leaders and physician scientists.
